  • How flat with milling machine? - Practical Machinist

Nov 24, 2018  If I was going for as flat as I could get, with that machine- I would use the horizontal spindle with the part and table tucked in as close as I could get. Finish pass- the biggest face mill I had (within reason), choked up as far as it goes, with all but one insert removed- treat it like a flycutter.

  • Milling the milling table..... The Hobby-Machinist

Dec 20, 2017  As the table moves from side to side, it will tend to drop because of the overhang. It would be nice to be able to machine it flat but really it needs to be done on a machine that can accurately do the job. I would not recommend it although it may seem to be a good idea. There is no such thing as perfection anyway so give that a bit of thought.

It is for that reason that readers should understand that dressing a mill table is very much a part of running a milling machine.

The problem above is that you are distorting the plate by clamping it against a table that is flat. What you need is a table that is wavy in exactly the same way as your plate when it is in a "free state". One of the easiest ways to do this is with super glue. You take the super glue and put it on the plate, then set the plate on the mill table.
